Our History


Dr. David Rummel was the first ophthalmologist to care for Arizona patients north of Phoenix, opening Prescott’s first ophthalmology practice in 1961. As a result, Rummel Eye Care, P.C. has offered the most exceptional eye care and surgery available for more than 40 years. Our reputation has grown along with the area that we serve. Today, we receive new patients from throughout Northern Arizona. At Rummel Eye Care, P.C., primary objective is to provide the best eye care for the people of Yavapai County, AZ.

Our highly-experienced physicians and sub-specialists provide the area’s best eye care services, including treatment of the cornea, the retina, early signs to advanced stages of glaucoma, and pediatric eye problems.

Our team provides eye care of the highest quality to patients of all ages. Known as Rummel Eye Care and Rummel Optical, we offer two convenient Arizona locations in Prescott and Prescott Valley.  About W. David Rummel, M.D. 
(1925-2019)


Dr. David Rummel was retired, but always played an integral part in the philosophy of patient care. Dr. Rummel was a Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a fellow member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a former board member of the Civil Aviation Medical Association. He was a Past President of the Arizona Ophthalmological Society.
Prescott Valley Eye Doctor — W. David Rummel, M.D. in Yavapai County, AZ
He has taught at the Ophthalmology Department at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico, and at the Noor Eye Institute in Kabul, Afghanistan. Dr. Rummel earned his medical degree at Hahnemann University College of Medicine in Philadelphia and served his residency in ophthalmology at Ohio State University Hospital. He was a staff physician at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

Rummel Eye Care — R. Mark Rummel, M.D., Ph.D. in Yavapai County, AZ

R. Mark Rummel, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Mark Rummel is a Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Rummel is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Arizona Ophthalmological Society, and several other medical associations. Dr. Rummel specializes in small-incision, suture-less cataract surgery and surgery for other eye conditions.
He earned his medical degree at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and served his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Arizona Medical Center. He earned a doctorate Ph.D. degree in health systems from Walden University, Institute for Advanced Studies, Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He resides in Prescott with his wife, Carol and two daughters who are nurses.

John H. Rummel, M.D.

Dr. John Rummel is a Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Arizona Ophthalmological Society. Dr. Rummel specializes in small-incision, suture-less cataract surgery and surgery for other eye conditions.
Prescott Eye Doctor — John H. Rummel, M.D. in Yavapai County, AZ
He is an Aviation Medical Examiner for the FAA and a Col. and Wing Commander with the Arizona Air National Guard. After completing medical training at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, he served his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Arizona Medical Center.
Dr. Rummel served a general medical internship at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and an internal medicine internship at the Veterans™ Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls.  He resides in Prescott with his wife, Roni.

Steven M. Meyers, O.D.

Dr. Meyers is certified to provide eye care in the field of Optometry. In addition to performing general vision care, his greatest interest is in contact lens services/treatment and counseling for low vision patients. Dr. Meyers is Arizona State certified to prescribe medications for the treatment of ocular conditions. He has provided eye care in Prescott and Prescott Valley for the past 21 years.
Prescott Eye Care — Steven M. Meyers, O.D. in Yavapai County, AZ
Dr. Meyers earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Sciences with honors and His Doctor of Optometry degree at Pacific University, Forest Grove, Oregon. He served internships at Pacific University and at Seattle Indian Health Center, Seattle, Washington. Dr. Meyers resides in Prescott Valley with his wife, Susie, their daughter, and granddaughter.
