Our History

Opening Prescott’s first ophthalmology practice in 1961, Dr. David Rummel was the first ophthalmologist to care for Arizona patients north of Phoenix. For more than 40 years, we have offered the finest eye care and surgery available. As our reputation has grown, so has the area that we serve. Today, new patients are referred to us from throughout Northern Arizona. Still, our primary objective is to care for the people of Yavapai County.

Patient Care

Patients receive personal attention throughout every aspect of care—from regular examinations to sophisticated microsurgery. As specialists in small-incision, no suture cataract surgery and other surgical procedures, our physicians perform the most advanced techniques.

As a service to our patients, we invite a number of sub-specialists to our office on a regular basis. These include specialist for the care and treatment of the cornea, the retina, early signs to advanced stages of glaucoma, and pediatric eye problems.

Staff & Atmosphere

Our staff, which includes David Rummel, M.D. and his sons, R. Mark Rummel, M.D., Ph.D,. and John Rummel, M.D. along with James B. Arthur, M.D., Robert W. Preston, M.D., Steven Meyers, O.D., and Amy H. Champ O.D. provide eye care of the highest quality to patients of all ages. Known as Rummel Eye Care and Rummel Optical, we offer convenient locations in Prescott and Prescott Valley. We believe that going to see a doctor should be convenient relaxing, and our offices are design to create a comfortable atmosphere.

Certified Staff & Equipment

Staff Members and ophthalmic assistants, technicians, and technologists are certified by the Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology to provide the finest professional care. The diagnostic instruments we utilize in our facilities are state-of-the-art.

For patient comfort and convenience, we provide on-site outpatient surgery in our own ambulatory surgery suite in Prescott. We also perform surgery, when desirable, at the Prescott Out-Patient Surgery Center and Yavapai Regional Medical Center.
